Hi, I’m Jennifer Flaa, CEO of Vettanna. I started my career testing for NASA before coming to Silicon Valley. My passion for QA process, methodology, educating and empowering excellent testers led me to start Vettanna in 1993.

Observations
In my consulting I noticed a some trends in the industry:
- The software being released to consumers lacked sufficient quality. Bugs were easily stumbled over by the end user and marred the user’s experience and their impression of the company that produced the software.
- The field of software testing lacked coherence in terminology, methodology and process.
- Software testers lacked training and fundamental knowledge and skills. The vast majority lacked engineering degrees, became testers “accidentally” and learned on the job by trial and error.
Vision
My vision was to create a company that corrected these deficiencies by:
- Providing software testers that have a proven baseline of knowledge and skills. Vettanna testers are renown for:
- The speed at which they become productive in new environments.
- The effectiveness and productivity at finding bugs, writing and running test cases.
- The ease and professionalism of their interactions with engineers and managers.
- Creating a training curriculum that didn’t just lecture but gave the learner an opportunity to try their new skills on real buggy software. Learners leave the classroom ready to implement their new skills right away.

Our core mission is to drive excellence in the software industry by providing excellent, productive and professional software testers.
Forte
Our forte is helping companies grow and mature. We are often called in as the first testers a company has retained. Working with input from Management, Engineering and Marketing, we setup the QA Department with processes, tools and testers. We put in place job descriptions, hiring criteria, a training program and eventually begin hiring a permanent staff. As the company grows, our testers are either offered positions or we continue to work as necessary to supplement their existing team. This is how we started the QA Department at the world’s largest online auction site and have continued working with them for over 12 years.
